Children’s Health Foundation is pleased to announce a gift of $20,000 from the Masonic Charity Foundation of Oklahoma. The funds will be used to support the annual Mighty Mouth Kids Camp, an evidence-based, intensive group treatment program for children with selective mutism, a severe anxiety disorder affecting 1 in 140 children, leaving them physically unable to speak in public.
MMKC is the only intensive treatment program in the region helping children find their “brave voice.” MMKC is designed to resemble a regular school where children often struggle most. Children experience guided exposures during activities with trained staff and volunteers created to facilitate speaking. Activities are paired with rewards to encourage “brave talking.” Each child is paired with their own “Brave Buddies” counselor.
CHF celebrates the Masonic Charity Foundation’s strong legacy of supporting the charitable and Educational needs of all Oklahomans. CHF Executive Director Kathy McCracken says, “The Masonic Charity Foundation of Oklahoma has been supporting children’s organizations for over 135 years. We are grateful for their incredible gift and partnership as we work together for children and families struggling with selective mutism.” Children’s Health Foundation supports pediatric researchers, physicians, and clinics that provide exceptional care to all children in Oklahoma. All funds raised through the Children’s Health Foundation stay in Oklahoma so that children and families can access the care that they need without leaving the state.
