The Adult Surgical Transplant Unit is a 32-bed unit at OU Health. We treat a wide variety of patients with varying levels of acuity, both in med\/surg and step-down status. We specialize in pre- and post-operative care for transplant patients\u2014specifically liver, kidney, and pancreas transplant candidates. Surgical Transplant offers the opportunity to participate in high complexity patient care (both pre- and post-operative transplant care) and gives the ability for caregivers to see the entire organ transplant process.<\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

General Description: <\/b>An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) I works under general supervision, providing the highest quality of care to patients in a hospital setting with health problems ranging from simple to complex. RN I represents the nurse who is a novice or an advanced beginner advancing to competent. While advancing from novice to competent, the nurse relies on rules rather than principles which are independent of specific situations. The advanced beginner may have enough real experience to begin to formulate principles.<\/p>\n

Essential Responsibilities<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2022 Aligns behaviors with OU Health values and maintains nursing professional practice standards.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Assumes responsibility for an assigned patient or group of patients.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting all changes in physician order on assigned patients.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes the physiological manifestations of patients, and intervenes when necessary.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Administers medication as prescribed.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Initiates, regulates and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Delivers patient care safely and competently.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Resolves patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Informs patient and family of hospital procedures and shares care plan during the time of care and at the time of discharge.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Fosters a growth mindset through seeking mentorship, remaining open to coaching and feedback, and maintaining professional certification(s)\/licensure in order to perpetually develop and uphold the skills required for proficiency within the nursing profession.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Develops a professional career plan and establishes personal, performance goals in alignment with enterprise-wide metrics, frequently measuring progress with department leadership.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Fosters an inclusive workforce where individual differences are valued and maximized to achieve OU Health\u2019s winning aspiration.<\/p>\n

*Minimum Qualifications (RN I):<\/p>\n

Education:<\/b> Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.<\/p>\n

Experience:<\/b> 0-3 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse.<\/p>\n

License\/Certification\/Registration:<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2022 Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).<\/p>\n

\u2022 Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*Minimum Qualifications (RN II):<\/p>\n

Education:<\/b> Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.<\/p>\n

Experience:<\/b> 3-5 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse required.<\/p>\n

License\/Certification\/Registration:<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2022 Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).<\/p>\n

\u2022 Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*Minimum Qualifications (RN III):<\/p>\n

Education:<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2022 Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.<\/p>\n

Experience:<\/b> 5+ years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse required.<\/p>\n

License\/Certification\/Registration:<\/b><\/p>\n

\u2022 Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).<\/p>\n

\u2022 Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Specialty certification(s) preferred.<\/p>\n

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities<\/b><\/p>\n
