Dialysis Nurses are responsible for overseeing dialysis treatments required by patients suffering from acute or chronic kidney failure as ordered by physicians.<\/p>\n

RESPONSIBILITIES<\/p>\n

Dialysis Nurses are responsible for:<\/p>\n

Checks and records patients\u2019 vitals before, during, and after dialysis treatment.
\nPrimes dialyzer and bloodlines.
\nEnsures that hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis treatments are administered to patients correctly.
\nMonitors patients during dialysis treatment to identify any adverse reactions.
\nOversees the dialysis treatment from start to finish.
\nCannulates accesses and cleans and dresses permanent and temporary catheters.
\nSecures, analyzes, and reports lab work.
\nPrepares and updates nursing care plans.
\nPromptly notifies the appropriate medical practitioner of any problems that occur during dialysis treatments.
\nSets up and tears down dialysis equipment for treatments; ensure dialysis equipment is properly cleaned
\nDraws all required water and dialysate samples for testing and analysis
\nChanges filters on dialysis equipment when indicated
\nEducates patients on dialysis treatment options, kidney disease management, as well as suitable nutrition and exercise regimens.
\nPerforms other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.
\nServes in an on-call capacity to respond to unforeseen circumstances or emergencies; this may include traveling to more than one hospital to provide dialysis therapy
\nEnsures all equipment biological testing of water and dialysate is completed in accordance with hospital policy and procedure and recognized standards & regulations
\nEnsures staff adhere to all approved dialysis policies and procedure
\nCollaborates with the hospital materials manager in ordering dialysis related supplies
\nPrepares the staff schedule, assignments and call schedule
\nPrepares dialysis related quality reports for the DQM and attends the hospital quality meeting
\nConducts monthly reviews of dialysis related equipment logs, disinfection logs & water\/dialysate results
\nConducts periodic infection control audits<\/p>\n

QUALIFICATIONS<\/p>\n

Education and Training:<\/p>\n

State license to practice nursing.
\nCertification through the Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) is preferred but not required.
\nProven experience working as a Dialysis Nurse.
\nBasic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
\nAdvanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred but not required.
\nExperience:\u00a0 One year nursing experience and three months experience in the modality being provided<\/p>\n
